Geothermal Energy
Residential geothermal ground-source heat pump systems use the solar heat that is stored in the earth to help heat your house. The heat pump circulates a fluid from your house through tubing installed in the earth. In the winter, the fluid absorbs heat from the ground (55 degrees year-round) and transfers it to the house. In the summer, the fluid flow is reversed, transferring excess heat from the house into the earth where it is cooled before returning to the house. The heat exchange tubing can be installed 6 feet deep in a trench or in 150 foot deep vertical tubes.
